The Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 (MMSS3) was officially inaugurated yesterday, 14 January 2021, with no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as the Guest of Honor.
“Today, through the hard work and cooperation of DPWH, CITRA Central Expressway Corporation (CCEC), and San Miguel Holdings Corporation, we finally open this 19 kilometers segment of skyway which runs from Buendia to Makati to NLEX and here in Balintawak,” President Duterte said.
The President was joined by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Wendel Avisado, Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) Secretary Vince Dizon, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos Jr., and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang.
SMC President Ang expressed his full support to the Duterte administration’s Build Build Build Program.
"Mr. President, your vision of a better life for Filipinos truly inspired us to work harder for the brighter future. Mabuhay po kayo at marami pong salamat.", Ang said.
Further, DPWH Secretary Villar gladly thanked Mr. Ang for the completion of the project, and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), through DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, for helping facilitate the right of way acquisition.
"On behalf of the government, I stand up my profound gratitude to San Miguel Corporation and its visionary leader, Mr. Ramon Ang, who is passionate to drive this project forward. Indeed, we can’t thank you enough for sharing a vision of a better Philippines. And of course, I would like to thank the TRB under the leadership of Secretary Arthur Tugade who really played a critical role in delivering the Right of Way of this project”. DPWH Sec. Mark Villar said.
The MMSS3 project is one of the key projects of the Duterte administration's “Build Build Build Program,” and is aimed at helping decongest traffic in Metro Manila especially in Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) and other major roads like C-5 (C.P Garcia) and Central Metro Manila.
This 18-kilometer Skyway Project is an elevated expressway from Buendia, Makati City to the North Luzon Expressway in Balintawak, Quezon City.
The construction of the mainline was completed from Buendia to Balintawak in December 2020, while the target completion of the construction of ramps will be in June 2021.
As a result, motorists will finally experience reduced travel time from Buendia to Balintawak from 2 hours to just 15 to 20 minutes.
Starting today, the mainline of Skyway Stage 3 will be open to the public. Motorists can seamlessly enjoy all access points and seven lanes on select areas for free until February 1, 2021.
The inauguration of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 was spearheaded by the DPWH, DOTr and SMC in collaboration with MMDA.
DOTr officials present at the event were Undersecretary for Finance Garry De Guzman, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Reinier Paul Yebra, Chief-of-Staff and Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez and Philippine National Railways (PNR) General Manager Junn Magno.
