IN PHOTOS: The Second ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Workshop on Aviation Security and Information Sharing was held via video conference today, February 22, 2021, with the Philippines co-chairing the said workshop.

The Philippines delegation is headed by Department of Transportation - Office for Transportation Security (DOTr-OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Raul Del Rosario, with our country co-hosting together with the United States of America and Australia.

Aside from the DOTr, the other lead agencies were the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

"To recall, our OTS was created in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks. I particularly welcome today's forum as we continually take steps to prevent another terrorist act," Administrator Usec. Del Rosario said.

The Philippines reiterated its commitment in elevating its aviation security environment to be at a globally competitive level, especially as more airports have been constructed and are being constructed through the government’s "BUILD, BUILD BUILD" infrastructure program, the massive undertaking that is set to transform the country’s transport connectivity.

Under the BBB program, the country will have a total of seventeen (17) international airports by 2022.

"In this three-day learning journey, I am confident that we will accomplish the objectives of this event, share best practices, and strengthen mechanisms for cooperation and knowledge sharing among ARF Member States," Usec. Del Rosario added.

After the presentation of the resource speakers, participants were divided into small groups from various international and local government sectors and exchanged opinions on the development and implementation mechanisms to better facilitate data information sharing in the aviation security sector throughout the region.

Included in the Philippine contingent were representatives from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

An initiative of the ARF, this virtual workshop is the second of a 3-part series, aimed at providing a secure civil aviation environment. The said videoconference, facilitated through the DOTr’s International Cooperation Division (ICD), the office concerned in overseeing all activities related to international arrangements, is one of the key events for the year with more undertakings lined up to fulfill the country's international commitment.
