In a world gripped with constant fear and sorrow over a raging pandemic, it is a refreshing sight, and a welcome respite, to know about gallantry in action that saved precious lives.
And these genuine acts of bravery, courage and selflessness has inspired no less than Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur P.  Tugade to personally reach out and express his sincere admiration and appreciation to 12 personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
These Cost Guard Rescuers are our HEROES OF THE DAY, when they rescued 12 passengers and the captain of a motorbanca which capsized at the vicinity waters off Sangley Point in Cavite on 5 April 2021.
Secretary Tugade was profuse with gratitude and congratulated the 12 “HEROES” from the Coast Guard Station Cavite for saving the lives of the passengers, including three (3) children and one (1) pregnant woman.
“It is by blessing, it is by good fortune to be able to meet personally our HEROES OF THE DAY. Isa lang ‘ho ang mensahe ko, sa ating pagsilbi at pagganap sa ating katungkulan, sana ‘ho walang bibitaw para sa tao. Sige lang ang trabaho para sa tao. Ituloy natin ang pagganap sa ating mga responsibilidad para sa tao. Sa inyong lahat, maraming maraming salamat. From the bottom of my heart, for our HEROES OF THE DAY, I send you my deepest and sincerest congratulations for a job well done. Allow me to salute you. Thank you very much,” Secretary Tugade said.
PCG-manned BFAR vessel, MCS-3001, was conducting seaborne patrol at said vicinity waters when the incident occurred. Without hesitation, the team immediately deployed and provided rescue assistance.
In the virtual meet that Secretary Tugade directed to be arranged immediately upon receiving the incident report, he also acknowledged the inspiring leadership of PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr .
Indeed, under the compassionate and dedicated supervision of Commandant Ursabia, the PCG has been at the vanguard of public service, especially at this most difficult period confronting the nation.
At times like these, we really need HEROES like the PCG frontliners, to restore our faith in humanity, and give us the courage and the will to fight head on the challenges that lie ahead.
Thank you PCG!
