Today will be the most memorable day to all our Kababayans in the Visayas region, as Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade leads team DOTr and its Aviation and Airports sector, as we present not just ONE, but TWO AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT projects in the Visayas region, namely the Calbayog Airport Development in Eastern Samar, and the upgrade of facilities in Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
Known as the 'complementary gateway' of Tacloban Airport, Calbayog Airport has been fully enhanced and sport a modern look with the completion of its new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), as well as the completion of the expansion of apron, and new taxiway, widening of the runway, runway strip grade correction, safety area (RESA) at Runway 35, and the construction of drainage system.
In Cebu, we will also witness the presentation of completed development projects of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), particularly its new extended TAXIWAY, as well as the completion of the NEW Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Administration building located within the MCIA complex.
These huge airport developments, as relentlessly pursued by Secretary Tugade, with the able support, assistance and cooperation of the CAAP and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), will surely pave the way for further economic growth and progress, providing thousands more in job and entrepreneurial opportunities, and spurring the potential boom of tourism, not only in the province of Samar and Metro Cebu but also the whole island of Visayas region.
More importantly, these airport development projects are envisioned to vastly improve the overall CONNECTIVITY and MOBILITY in the country.
With 426 calendar days before the Duterte Administration's term end, we remind ourselves of our long term mission to give our dear Filipino people more comfortable, safe, convenient, and easily-accessible public transportation which you all deserve.
We are on it.
