Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade has envisioned the Province of Pangasinan as an economic and tourism powerhouse. With the famous Hundred Islands as one its prized attractions, Pangasinan boasts of its resources and natural wonders that are key to spur job generation and economic growth.

For Sec. Art Tugade, Pangasinan deserves the necessary investment and development of transport infrastructure, to enhance mobility and connectivity. This is why the DOTr and its attached agencies continue to fulfill their commitment to the province to further unlock more opportunities for inclusive growth.

In the aviation sector, the construction of the apron of Lingayen Airport is 100% complete. The DOTr has likewise completed the asphalt overlay of the airport’s runway in August 2020 despite the pandemic. Also completed is the construction of the barbed wire perimeter fence of Alaminos Airport.

For the maritime sector, the DOTr has completed two social tourism port projects, which are much needed to further boost tourism and trade in Pangasinan.

Tomorrow, Sec. Art Tugade and his team will visit and inspect the Pangasinan North River Landing Projects on Barangay Capandanan and Barangay Pangapisan, both in Lingayen. The two seaport projects are projected to improve maritime connectivity in Region 1.

Meanwhile, other notable transport initiatives in the province include the PUV Modernization Program. This road transport program makes Pangasinan special to DOTr because of its support and promotion of sustainable and environment-friendly transportation through the PUVMP.

As proof, Region 1 has the third-highest consolidated rate of almost 64%, where there are 62 accredited transport cooperatives with 3,821 members.

Moreover, the DOTr has chosen Pangasinan as the venue of the pilot launch of the “Tsuper Iskolar” Program in 2019, in partnership with TESDA. Under the program, drivers, operators, and their beneficiaries who are part of the PUVMP are being given free training skills and daily allowance.

As of 14 May 2021, the "Tsuper Iskolar" program has 934 graduates in Region 1 from the 1,186 approved slots. At present, there are 247 enrolled beneficiaries.

With another day less in the Duterte administration, the DOTr will continue to fulfill its mandate and marching order of President Rodrigo Duterte to give Filipinos a comfortable life.

Under the strong-willed leadership of Sec. Art Tugade, your DOTr will continue to spearhead game-changing transport projects that will push forth and unlock the potential economic and tourism powerhouses in our regions, just like the Province of Pangasinan.
