Adhering to the guidance of Secretary Art Tugade to uphold an inclusive and participatory approach in the promotion of active transportation in the country, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) together with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Committee on Transportation (COTr), and various civil society organizations (CSOs) fronted the Metro Bike Lane Inspection today, 09 June 2021.
Officials from the national government agencies present include DOTr Assistant Secretary Mark Steven C. Pastor and DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Eric A. Ayapana. From the COTr, ACT Teachers Representative (Rep.) France L. Castro, Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand R. Gayte, and Senior Citizens Rep. Rodolfo M. Ordanes joined in the inspection as mandated by the COTr Chairman Edgar S. Sarmiento of the 1st District of Samar.
Several cyclists and CSOs - Bikers United Movement, Firefly Brigade, and Move As One Coalition also participated in the inspection and biked throughout the route to properly inspect the infrastructure.
The officials, representatives, and members of the CSOs inspected two (2) major sections of the Metro Manila Bike Lane Network, starting from C-5 going to EDSA through Shaw Boulevard and to Roxas Boulevard where the group ride-tested the bi-directional Class 1 bike lanes.
