This is the highlight of the message imprinted by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade into the minds of the road users and riding public, during the conduct of the Road Safety Advocacy Program at the Land Transportation Office-Philippines (LTO) - Region 3 in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan yesterday, 14 June 2021.

During the event, Sec. Tugade also reiterated that ‘road safety is a non-negotiable aspect in public transportation.’

“Huwag na ‘ho tayong maglagay ng alinlangan o duda na ang road safety ay kailangang kailangan. Huwag na natin hintayin na ‘yung magiging biktima ng crash violations sa traffic; yung mga crash diyan, ‘yung mga banggaan d’yan ay kasama ‘ho ang ating mga kaibigan, o ‘yung ating mahal sa buhay,” Sec. Tugade said.

For road safety to be a purposeful commitment, a constant reminder must be done, in which Sec. Tugade lauded the LTO Region 3 for its initiative in conducting such program for our kababayans.

“Ang road safety ay hindi lang isang adbokasiya. Ang road safety ay isang way of life. Ang road safety ay isang commitment, an expression of passion, and dedication to our countrymen. Ito ‘ho ang dapat na mensahe at dapat commitment natin ngayon, na all safety, habang nandiyan tayo sa lansangan, safety is caring with our fellowmen— then and only then can we say that public transportation indeed is worthwhile kasi ‘ho mayroong safety,” Sec. Tugade emphasized.

The DOTr and its respective attached agencies also met with transport groups during the program, with an aim to address array of concerns about the Department’s programs, projects, and initiatives.

Sec. Tugade also mentioned before the transport groups the Free Ride for Health Workers and Authorized Persons Outside of their Residence (APORs) Program under the Service Contracting Program of the DOTr and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), as well as the Tsuper Iskolar Program—which provides our participating drivers, operators and beneficiaries with free skills training, in cooperation with the Technical Education And Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and daily allowance.

Other key officials from the DOTr, LTFRB, and LTO were also present during the event, as well as several local government officials of the region.
