Equitable and inclusive growth will now be felt in the Caraga Administrative Region as Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade is set to inaugurate development projects in the Butuan Airport in Agusan del Norte and Cantilan Port in Surigao del Sur on Thursday, 05 August 2021.
Secretary Tugade, together with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, will lead the inauguration and ribbon cutting ceremonies of the Butuan Airport’s runway asphalt overlay, passenger terminal building (PTB) rehabilitation works and its Malasakit Hall to improve air mobility in the Caraga region.
Completed last 5 November 2020, the Butuan Airport’s Malasakit Hall is part of the airport’s modernization and people-centered service delivery that will serve as a transient spot for the flying public specifically designed to provide comfort and convenience. The hall features a clinic, a childcare room, lounge, a prayer room, washroom, and concession space for passenger convenience.
The Butuan Airport development project also covers the asphalt overlay of the airport’s runway, which was completed on 31 July 2021 and the repair and repainting of the passenger terminal building (PTB).
Meanwhile, a better and more spacious Cantilan Port will greet passengers after the DOTr and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) have completed the port’s development projects that covers the construction of its Reinforced Concrete (RC) Pier, back-up area, and a port lighting system.
Secretary Tugade and PPA General Manager Jay Santiago will lead the virtual inauguration of the improved port that can now handle 25,000 to 30,000 bags of cement shipments a month and handle twice the current cargo volume.
As a result of the development projects, passengers at the Cantilan Port will no longer have to suffer in poorly maintained facilities and uncomfortable travel.
The Butuan Airport and Cantilan Port development projects will not only provide comfort and convenience to passengers but are also expected to promote local growth, tourism, and job generation. Small businesses are also expected to flourish in the Caraga Region as more jobs are generated.
