Under the Service Contracting Program Phase II, the Libreng Sakay program resumed service last Monday, 13 September 2021, for medical frontliners, essential workers, and Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs) in Metro Manila and Regions 1, 2, and 10.
The program aims to assist medical frontliners and APORs during the pandemic through FREE RIDES as they come to work, and also heading home.
With the return of FREE RIDE, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have recorded a total of 170,345 ridership on its first day of reimplementation.
The Service Contracting Program also aims to provide incentives to public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers depending on the trips they have completed per week, regardless of the number of passengers.
With a 3 billion budget under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2021, they will receive the incentives on a weekly basis.
“Ang public transport ay HANAPBUHAY. Ang public transport ay TULONG SA MGA NAGHAHANAPBUHAY. ‘Yan ang tulong ng Service Contracting Program,” Sec. Art Tugade stated.
