The Department of Transportation (DOTr), representing the Philippines, hosted the 44th ASEAN Air Transport Working Group Meeting (ATWG) and Related Meetings on 25 and 26 October 2021.
DOTr Undersecretary and Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Raul L. Del Rosario reiterated the call for ASEAN to deliver its mission of providing comfortable and convenient life for its people. He highlighted the resilience and focus of the ATWG despite the unprecedented situation of the Covid-19 pandemic
"I am confident that we have contributed to this meaningful cause...however, our work is still far from over," said Usec. Del Rosario during the virtual conference.
The 44th ATWG is the last of four meetings to be chaired by the Philippines for the term 2020-2021, in support of the ASEAN’s work towards the realization of a single aviation market in the region.
The ATWG is the principal coordinating and implementing arm of the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) which is responsible for carrying out programs, projects, and activities related to air transport under the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (KLTSP) 2016-2025.
The two-day event provided an opportunity for fellow ASEAN members and industry stakeholders to ensure the sector's continuing recovery and development. The outcomes of the 44th ATWG will be reported to Transport Ministers and senior transport officials next month.
In closing, Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) Executive Director Carmelo L. Arcilla congratulated all participants in accomplishing several deliverables in the last two years. All ASEAN Member States were invited to visit the Philippines once the situation gets better.
Aside from Usec Del Rosario and ED Arcilla, the Philippine delegation was also represented by Atty. Clarabel Anne R. Lacsina of CAB, with representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), OTS, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and DOTr Planning and International Cooperation Divisions. CAB Chief Hearing Officer Atty. Maria Elben S.L. Moro served as the chairperson of the 44th ATWG.
The 44th ATWG was preceded by the 8th Meeting of the Air Traffic Management (ATM) Strategic Planning Group (SPG), which was also chaired by the Philippines through the CAAP. The ATM SPG meeting served as a platform for ASEAN Member States to share their progress in their respective commitments to implement the ASEAN Air Navigation Service Master Plan adopted in 2020.
