For the past FIVE years, the Philippines’ maritime security and safety capabilities have been enhanced and strenghtened in large part because of the various initiatives and accomplishments of our very own Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
And we thank the visionary and strong-willed leadership of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade, and the sterling management of the PCG, now led by Commandant Admiral Leopoldo Laroya, for these developments.
The success is also attributed to the growing manpower complement of the PCG, which has made a huge increase from 6-7,000 in 2016 to more than 20,000 today, while the acceptance of new members of the Coastal Community Auxiliary Division of the PCG Auxiliary continue to augment its current capability.
Likewise, the important and game-changing acquisition of modern and high tech maritime and aerial assets, such as the multi-role response vessels (MRRVs) and Cessna Caravan 208 Aircraft, reinforces the continuous safeguarding of the West Philippine Sea and the rest of Philippine waters.
There is also the relentless expansion and improvement of facilities across the country, including buoys, hospital ships, the Special Operations Force Boat Support Facility, and the PCG K-9 Academy, all which enables the PCG to respond faster and more efficiently, especially in disaster management and rescue, recovery and relief operations.
This is your PCG now— stronger, better, and always at your service! 🇵🇭
