Transportation Secretary Art Tugade yesterday recognized an employee assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) who exemplified honesty at work.
Janitor Jhun Telewik returned a pouch which contained USD 10,000 or P500,000, which he saw while cleaning at NAIA Terminal 2 on 27 November 2021.
After recovering the said item, he searched through the premises for the owner. He then relayed through the airport’s paging system, but since there was no claimant, the honest janitor turned-over the bag containing the money to the Lost and Found section of the Manila International Airport of Authority (MIAA).
Upon learning of this incident, Secretary Tugade met Mr. Telewik and personally thanked him for his selflessness as a person and dedication to work as a part of the airport workforce.
"Hindi mahalaga ang sinabi ko, hindi rin mahalaga kung ano man ang matatanggap mo ngayon. Ang mahalaga okay at malinis ang iyong budhi. Kokonti nalang yan [ang mga ganyang katangian],” Secretary Tugade said.
As a recognition of his sincerity, Secretary Tugade gave Mr. Telewik an amount coming from his personal fund. The janitor also received USD 100 or P5,000 from the owner of the bag.
Mr. Telewik also earned praises from his co-employees for being a good example and inspiration to them.
A big salute to you, Mr. Telewik. Mabuhay ka!
